Wave Agency

Wave Publisher · The Publishing Platform

Everything a publication runs on, in one system.

Newsroom, print issues, events, a directory, reader accounts, newsletters, native apps, and your own ad inventory. Not a website plus six subscriptions that do not know about each other. We wrote it to run our own two titles, and it turned out other publications need the same thing.

Why It Exists

We needed it, so we wrote it.

Every publication we looked at was running the same six tools badly. This is what replaced them for us.

The Usual Stack

Six vendors, none of them talking.

A CMS, a separate events tool, a mailing list, a directory subscription, an ad network taking a cut, and a developer on retainer to keep the seams from showing.

  • Six bills, six logins
  • A reader is a stranger to five of them
  • Ad revenue shared with an exchange
  • Every integration is somebody's project
On Wave Publisher

One system, one reader record.

A reader who subscribes to the newsletter, comments on a story, and books an event is one person in one database. Your advertisers are yours. Your numbers are counted by your own server.

  • One platform, one bill
  • One reader record everywhere
  • Your own inventory, your own rates
  • Shipped and maintained by us

What It Does

The modules, all of them running today.

Every line below is live on Long Island Wave or Creations Magazine right now. Nothing here is a roadmap.

NewsroomStories with categories, a featured hero, share cards, and a Google News sitemap, published in a minute.
Print IssuesThe whole back catalog online, issue by issue, and each new edition the day it drops.
Events and DirectoryA community calendar readers submit to, a resource directory, and a marketplace, all ready to sell as upgrades.
Readers and NewslettersPasswordless accounts, comments, moderated discussion circles, and a list that grows on its own.
Wave AdsYour own inventory and your own advertisers, with rotation, targeting, and first-party reporting. No exchange taking a cut.
Apps and PushYour title in the App Store and Google Play, with breaking-news alerts you send yourself.

The Proof

Long Island Wave, published on it every day.

Not a case study from a client who has since moved on. This is our own title, and the banner beneath the lead story is real inventory served by the same system.

The Long Island Wave home page, with a featured food and drink story and a sponsored banner served by the Wave ad network.

The Newsroom

Written, approved, out the door.

Drafts, editors, a schedule, and publication in a minute, with the share cards, the structured data, and the search-engine pings handled for you.

01

Draft

Agents research and write to your brief, your voice, and your house style.

02

Route

It goes to the right editor, in the right order, with nothing waiting on a chase email.

03

Schedule

Approved work lands on the calendar, timed to the audience rather than to a spreadsheet.

04

Ship

Out to every channel you own, formatted correctly for each one, and logged.

Agents can carry the volume. If you want the research, the first draft and the scheduling handled by a crew rather than by people, that is Wave Workforce, and the two run together.

Wave Ads

Your inventory, your advertisers, your numbers.

We did not bolt an exchange onto our publications. We wrote the ad server, and it ships with the platform.

Filled at request time

Placements are not hardcoded. The server reads the slot, pulls the advertisers eligible for it, and rotates between them, so a position is shared fairly rather than belonging to whoever booked first.

Format-aware creative

Each placement declares the shape it accepts. A wide banner is never squeezed into a square, and an enhanced buy runs its banner and its box as two real pieces of inventory.

Counted at the source

Impressions and clicks are recorded by your own server as they happen, not by a pixel an ad blocker can drop.

Nothing is pooled

Your advertisers, your creative, and your reporting stay with your title. No auction takes a cut and no third party sits between you and the readers you spent years earning.

The Platforms

Three platforms, three live businesses.

Wave Publisher runs our two titles. Wave Community runs the Melville Chamber. Wave Workforce runs this agency. Each one is licensable on its own.

Owned & Partner Properties

We run our own businesses on it first.

Three platforms we wrote, and the live businesses running on them. Two titles we publish on Wave Publisher, a chamber of commerce we run with its board on Wave Community, and a consumer app of our own. Wave Ads is the ad server inside the first two.

Common Questions

Questions publishers ask.

Can we bring our archive?+
Yes, and we have done it twice. Creations Magazine came across with four decades of issues and Long Island Wave with hundreds of articles, old URLs redirected so nothing that ranked was thrown away. Migration is part of the work, not an extra.
Do we keep our advertisers?+
They are yours and they always were. Wave Ads is your own inventory on your own server: you set the rates, you hold the relationships, and nothing is resold through a network we control.
Do we get apps?+
Yes. Native iPhone and Android apps sharing one account and one set of data with the site, with breaking-news alerts you send yourself. Both of our titles have them.
Who owns the content and the reader list?+
You do, and you keep both if we ever part ways. We work in your accounts, not in ours.
Is it only for magazines?+
It is built for anything with an audience and an editorial calendar: local news, trade titles, alumni and association magazines. If your organization is membership-first rather than story-first, Wave Community is the closer fit.
