Building the New Len Marks Photography Website

A new home for a Huntington headshot studio, with its blog, reviews and bookings in one place.

A photographer’s website has one job before any other: the pictures have to look as good on the screen as they did in the studio. Len Marks brings nearly four decades of experience behind the camera to Len Marks Photography, his studio at 376 New York Avenue in Huntington, and the new website we built for Len is designed to get out of the way of that work.

Len is best known for headshots: business and executive portraits, teams photographed on site, actors and performers. The studio also does commercial and branding photography, a mobile headshot booth and coverage for events, and editorial portraits and art reproduction for artists. Clients come from across Long Island, Queens and New York City.

Dark, so the portraits glow

The studio’s own look is black and gold, taken straight from Len’s logo, and the site leans into it. Most pages open on a dark band where a portrait carries the page and the words sit quietly beside it, with gold reserved for the one phrase that matters and the button that books a session. A headshot photographed against a dark backdrop belongs on a dark page, and Len’s portfolio reads that way from the first screen.

The site was rebuilt from the ground up, replacing the studio’s previous hosted site page for page. Every page kept its address, and every older link that pointed somewhere else now redirects to the right place, so years of links from directories, social profiles and past clients still arrive where they should.

Two websites, made one

The studio’s articles used to live on a separate blog with its own domain, apart from the site they were meant to support, so neither got the full benefit of the other. We brought the blog in as The Journal, styled to match the rest of the site, and every address from the old blog now leads to the same article in its new home.

The Journal now holds forty articles, sorted into headshots, branding and events, and they answer the questions people actually ask before booking: what to wear, how to prepare, how often to update a headshot, and how to plan on-site headshots for a whole office.

Real reviews, on the page

Len’s clients say it better than any copy could, so the site lets them. The Reviews page shows the studio’s Google reviews, 4.96 out of 5 from 108 at the time of writing, as real text on the page rather than in a widget that loads later. That means visitors read them immediately, and search engines and AI assistants can read them too. The reviews are refreshed from Google whenever the site is updated, so new ones keep joining them.

We also gave the site pages for the Long Island towns Len serves most, starting from Huntington. Each one says something true only of that town, rather than repeating the same paragraph with a new name in it.

Booking without the back and forth

Book Now lets a client pick a preferred date and session type and pay the studio’s $100 retainer on a secure Stripe checkout, after which the studio confirms the appointment by phone or email. For anyone who would rather talk first, the contact page books a free 15-minute call by Zoom or phone straight into Len’s calendar.

Santa at the Conklin Barn

For the second year in a row, Len is photographing families, kids and dogs with Santa at the Conklin Farmhouse and Barn in Huntington, presented with the Townwide Fund. This year’s dates are November 21 and 22, and the Santa page lets families register, choose a time and pay online.

Behind it sits an admin we built for the studio. Every registration appears there with its time slot and its payment linked together, ready to be checked in on the day. Payments and bank deposits are matched up to the cent, which makes the bookkeeping after a busy weekend a far smaller job. The same admin holds every contact form message and retainer request, the newsletter list and a simple view of how the site is being found.

Thank you

Thank you to Len and the whole studio for trusting us with work that is so personal to them. Few businesses are judged so directly by what they show, and it has been a pleasure building a home worthy of the portraits.

If your headshot is more than a few years old, or you have been putting one off, book a session with Len. And if you are in Huntington this month, bring the family, and the dog, to see Santa.
